A century-old City Hall and Marketplace has become the new home for Springfield and Clark County's heritage. Priceless mementos have been assembled to open an exciting window on seven generations of fascinating history.
Exhibit galleries, an archive and research library, meeting facilities, a museum store, restaurant, and the office of Veteran's Services are all housed in the Heritage Center of Clark County.
The Heritage Center of Clark County occupies a 50' by 462', 56,000 square foot, three story, brick and stone building in the center of downtown Springfield, originally constructed in 1890 for city offices and a farmer's market. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Sites. It contains:
over 13,000 square feet of modern, permanent exhibitions and 3,000 square feet of rotating exhibit galleries;
a multi-purpose, educational and meeting room titled "Discovery Hall" where children and adults can access information on the Historical Society;
a modern archives and library resource center for students, researchers and genealogists;
administration offices, volunteer support areas, collections storage and laboratory space as support for Society and museum operations;
offices for the Clark County Veterans' Support Services on the West end, third floor.
