In 1978 the Orrville Railroad Heritage Committee was formed to save the town's railroad station. It is located at the junction of two former Pennsylvania Railroad lines. The route from Pittsburgh to Chicago via Crestline, OH and Fort Wayne, IN is still used by Conrail. The other line is the Orrville secondary, part of a former PRR route from Cleveland to Columbus, OH. This portion is still used by Conrail to service local industries. Former Amtrak passenger service with the Broadway Limited and the Capitol Limited through Orrville now uses other routes.
The ORHS also owns the interlocking tower that controlled the junction, an ex-PRR caboose, and several heritage passenger cars and also an F-7 ABB diesel locomotive. The ORHS operates mainline passenger excursion trains several times a year. The excursions run on the Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway, the Ohio Central Railroad System, and on other railroads with Amtrak specials. Steam locomotives power the excursions, whenever possible. In the past, such stalwarts as NKP 765, N&W 611, and N&W 1218 have powered the trains.
